not really, because then I'll have the measurements for the cuts and all.   plus I can always put a good clear cover back over them

It's the reflector that's cracked, is what I mean.  But, yeah, won't hurt to experiment :]

I just bought the 3M Headlight Lens Resotration System.

It includes an attachment that you put on a standard drill (1200-1600 rpm).  All sandpaper is included.  It attaches to the pad holder by velcro.  You do all your sanding then use the polish, also provided ($20).  I just put some soapy water in a spray bottle and kept the lens wet as I sanded using the drill.

It takes awhile, but the results are amazing.
