Title: elspectro29's once and future daily - 1991 Si ALB (auto)
Post by: elspectro29 on March 01, 2013, 11:38:42 am
My first car. I bought it in September 2010 from a guy who was trying to get his life turned around. It didn't run because of a bad alternator, which was then fixed a month or two later. I DD'd it for about a year, but it gave me several problems along the way even though it ran fine. It sat in my dad's driveway while I drove the 95 Si (which I'll talk about in the accident forum). After the 95 was wrecked, I drove it for a few weeks until I got the 93, and I still drove it once or twice a week, especially in poor weather, until last month when the power steering began to fail. It's sat since then. I have the replacement pump but I want to fix a few more of the little things it needs while it's not drive-worthy.

Engine: B21A1 with 180xxx miles. I bought it with 171k, and it's given me no problems.
Color: NH503P (Granada Black Pearl) with black interior

It isn't really modded, except for a fart can and a CD player that doesn't work. I have most of the things it needs to be fully functional again, mostly little things, including a stock radio and a Quiet-Flow muffler. I hope to get it back in good running order later this year.

Both pics from the day I got it. It hasn't really changed much.

The helluva time getting out was about 20% act, 80% howthehell am i gonna get outta one of these, cause i sure want one.
Junk yard runs are paying off.
Trunk full yet?

Lucky's trunk is full.
The 97 has a leak. The replacement gaskets are in the trunk with a few plastic pieces that wouldn't fit in Lucky.
Now there's an s-drive in the trunk waiting for a rim for a full sized spare.

97 parts piling up in my living room due to a mouse invasion in my shed

To-do list (beginning sometime this spring):

Fix power steering so I can drive it again
Remove semi-functional CD player and replace with stock radio and OEM CD player (!)
Wire in my spare 4th gen antenna so the stock radio will work
New rear speakers
Swap out fart can for Quiet-Flow muffler (tried doing this last week but the jack mounting point is directly next to the muffler bolts)
Replace driver's side door lock and latch
Replace passenger's side seat belt buckle and door hinges
Replace radiator
Fix whatever's making the right rear wheel scrape
Replace left front CV
Other assorted little things that I can't remember, but I have most of the replacement parts already thanks to the local junkyards being 3rd gen rich this winter.

After that, 88-89 front bumper swap.

So, a black/tan 89 2.0Si showed up at a local junkyard this week. I went there today, looking to see how the front bumper was. It's in pretty good, but not perfect, shape. It has a tan interior (very dirty) and had steelies with DA9 hubcaps. I didn't get the bumper yet because I didn't have the extensions, but I got dad some tan trim pieces and got myself a (wait for it...) factory CD player. Full harness and everything. Still needs speakers, but it was cool to find a rare factory accessory in the junkyard like that.

Edit: got the bumper today, just before closing time. I'm amazed at how much easier it is to take off than a 4th gen bumper. Just 4 12mm bolts on the front and 2 underneath. Dad got some hinges for his 3rd gen as well. And did I mention the factory CD player? That was the ONLY option it had.

Traded this for Unit 6095 today. It's now the donor car for the engine and tranny in them.

There's some Bondo already on the left rear quarter, not sure if it's for rust or from an accident (I found paperwork that it had been in one before), and a couple of spots coming in on the right rear quarter. Also a bare spot on the driver's side door that was already rusted when I got it.

Wonder how much s&h would be to mail it.

I'm gonna use the motor for Lucky (until I decide to H22) and the auto tranny will go to 'three' . I may grab a peice or part from the shell but junkyard runs have pretty much fulfilled my shopping list.

If you want it we'll work something out.... DEPOG 3G project!

At least going to you guys we know it would be in good hands. Can't say that about anyone else. I'm going to put the rest of the parts in it from the garage tomorrow.

This car was nicknamed Unit 1 (the donor).

It's under a cover on a slight hill covered in concrete acting as a prelude shaped storage shed.

The car is packed with 3g parts. About 20 trips to the junkyard has yielded a plethora of items to restore a 3g car including rust free quarter panels.

Recently it was moved to the backyard. The ground was soft and my Ranger pickup didn't get it moved to the destination.
When dry conditions allow, she'll be moved beside a shed where a carport is to be built to shade her from the elements.
